Harmony day

BubbleShare: Share photos - Easy Photo Sharing
On Thursday 19 of March was the Harmony day celebration at TAFE. I went with my teacher and classmates and we enjoyed the performances that other English students did on this special occasion.

It was very interesting. Some students sang in their mother language. Others talked about their experiences in Australia and a Chinese lady played a typical instrument. then every one stood up and sang the National athem, and also all together sang the very famous song "We are Australian".

Finally we enjoyed the cakes, biscuits and food that people brought to share.

Harmony day is a good opportunity to make friends and help people to live peacefully.

Library's tour

As a TAFE student you can borrow items from TAFE library.

You can borrow six books and four audio-videos. You can keep books for two weeks and audio-videos for one week.

The items can be renewed by phone or in the library, also you can renew items twice.

If you want to photocopy and print in the library you have to take your TAFE card and put some many into it, each photocopy costs twenty cents but if you are an Student Association Member you have to pay just half price.

The library opens from 9:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m Monday to Friday and you can return items when the library is open.

You can borrow items from other libraries as well.

The library staff can help you with any additional information that you need.

My country's supertitions

There are a lot of superstitions in my country but the ones that people believe in most are:

At New Year's celebration at 12:00 am, get a suitcase and walk around a couple of streets and come back. It means you are going to travel during the year.

Also open your house front door and sweep to put the old year out and welcome the new one.

Eat twelve grapes and make a wish for each one you eat.

Another one is people should wear yellow under wear to get good luck.

Well there are many more, for example if the day is Tuesday 13 people must be careful because it is a bad luck day or even if someone breaks a mirror they could get seven years of bad luck.

I don't believe in superstitions so I don't worry about it.

Recount about my last weekend

Last Saturday I went to my neighbour's place. They made a barbecue and they invited me and my family. Our neighbours place is a massive flat it is located in the top of a high building it had a big terrace whit an spectacular view.

We arrived at 12:00 p.m first they introduced to us their relatives and friends. Our neighbours are Australians so I had to practice all my English skills and I felt confident. Then I had an interesting conversation with a lady who has been in Colombia a long time ago and although I don't like alcohol I drank a glass of wine because she likes to talk and drink wine.

Then lunch was ready, there was a lot of food and every one served them selves. I was starving so I ate a big piece of meat with salad and vegetables, then a delicious desert that I chose between different kinds of cakes and sweets. After lunch I enjoyed a hot cup of coffee with my neighbour's sister who was interested in my Country, so we were talking of different subjects about it.

Finally we thanked our neighbours for letting us share the afternoon with them. We said good bye to every one.

I had a good time and I really enjoyed being in in my neighbours place with my husband and my kids.

Questios about Marion's Holiday

Hi Marion

I saw your photo album about your holidays, it was an interesting trip congratulations. I would like to ask you some questions:

Did you and your family travel by car or by plane?
How long were you there?
How many waterfalls does Rocky Valley have?
Is Alpine National Park far away from Melbourne?
Did you stay in a hotel or in a caravan?

Recount about Marion's holiday

I went to Marion’s Blog and I viewed the photo album. I saw some photos of Marion and her family on Christmas Holidays.

They traveled To Victoria. First they went to Rocky Valley, I saw a photo of Marion enjoying the beautiful waterfalls and peaceful land escape that Falls Creek had.
Then they visited the Alpine National Park, all of them were interested on a long path through the park so Marion’s daughter and her friend took a photo there.

Finally the travelers went to see the Oldest Cattleman’s Hut; it was another amazing place so they took three interesting photos among the ancient trees.

About me

My name is FLOR MARTINEZ I come from Colombia an interesting and beautiful country, It is located in South America. I arrived to Australia several years ago with my husband and my kids.

The first days were so hard for us because we found a completely different life stile but the hardest part was the communication with people because we could not speak English at all. Well but most people in Australia are very kind and helpful with migrants so day by day we felt more confident. I am still learning English because I would like to improve my knowledge to get a better job.

Although I have got a lot of friends I still miss my family and my country but anyway in general my family and I are enjoying our lives in this amazing country so I would like to thank Australia for letting us be came permanent residents and to offer us a better life.
